The Challenge

Our client wanted a solution that could enable the configuration of a distributed workflow framework that can be resold to their existing customers as part of their software sales. The workflow framework should enable different types of authentication protocols, allow configuration and receipt of different types of requests through mobile or APIs, should facilitate the end-user-specific workflow lifecycle definitions based on request type definitions, and communicate the requests to different message queues as per configuration. Once the requests are approved and/or processed, the workflow engine should be able to perform the next step in the workflow and provide visibility on the request status to the requestor or requesting process. The requirement was the solution needed to be agnostic about the type of workflow process preferred by clients, type of authentication, and request type preferred and enable seamless interaction through mobile or web platforms and APIs.

Our Approach

Delta Technology Gulf’s Architects performed a detailed requirements analysis and identified the core components of the Workflow engine and the associated components of the proposed distributed workflow framework required by the client. To ensure that the application was truly agnostic, we researched different off-the-shelf open-source frameworks available for various components of the framework. We validated the ability of these frameworks to interact seamlessly and assess their scalability in a pilot phase.
